I Know What That Is

On 25th to 27th October 2012 the Monkton Players produced a version of the farce I Know What That Is. However on reflection the author has decided a new version needs to be written. So the original version has not been published

The Best Will In The World

The best will in the world is a full length eerie comedy for 2men & 6women and is the second new play to be put up for your consideration.

The Best Will In The World is for 2men & 6women, in 2 Acts, using 1 Set, taking place over one evening.
The play has a predominantly female cast but they do range over three generations. The main parts are taken by older actresses. Although it is an eerie comedy, it is still for all the family as there are no really scary scenes.

The play centres on the attempts of the ghost of an old aristocrat to ensure his will is the best will in the world. His greedy stepdaughters, however, make every attempt to make sure it is the best will in the world for them.

If you want to know more about it then go to The Best Will In The World.

The Old Rust Bucket
again

I’ve had a word with Jim at Cressrelles and the mix-up over the name of the author of ‘The Old Rust Bucket’. In some of the Cressrelles’ lists I am credited with being the author, but in one of their lists it is still credited to Ron Betts. However, this will be changed.

So I have posted full details of the play here on our website and have made all the necessary links to Cressrelles so that you can purchase books and licences from them. All prices are on their website so we won’t repeat them here in case they change.

Unfortunately this play is not available on Kindle.

If you want to know more about it then go to The Old Rust Bucket

Amazon Kindle

This is the hot news of this moment. You can now download “A Pretty Pickle” and “Pocahontas” to your Amazon Kindle e-reader, or even the Kindle APP on your mobile device. It costs about half the price of a printed book to download them; though you will still have to come to us for the licence to perform them. I have to say “about” because the price does vary with exchange rates. It is our intention to have all our plays for download. However “The Old Rust Bucket” will not be available as this is still published by Cressrelles.

Pocahontas
(the Pantomime)

Well I said I would bring you a pantomime and here it is. Pocahontas the Pantomime is something new for you to enjoy.

I thought about new interpretations of the classic panto's and then I had an idea that some of the characters from this period of American history would be just longing to be in panto’.

And so Pocahontas is here with some of her old friends: John Smith (of course), Captain Samuel Argall and Japazaws. Joining her are some new friends: Maw (a dame), Paw (a bear), Little-Wampum, Babbling-Water, Wheels and Gofar, Big-Wampum, Hocus-Pocus and more.

Betrothed to Japazaws, by her father, when she was very young the time has now come for her to have to marry him. As Japazaws returns to claim his betrothed John Smith arrives from England. Inevitably Pocahontas falls in love with John and they want to marry. She is kidnapped and bewitched by Japazaws. Only John can save her.

But I am sure all will end happily ever after when the songs have been sung, the jokes have been told, the dances have been danced and the fights have been fought.

Anyway it’s available now if you want something a bit different. But please remember this is Pantomime, not history. If you want to know more about it go to Pocahontas

The Old Rust Bucket

Many years ago when I started writing plays I wrote The Old Rust Bucket. It eventually was published by the ‘New Playwrights Network’. The NPN folded and The Old Rust Bucket found herself in the capable hands of Cressrelles publishing, and that is where you’ll find the play. However in the move the play got credited to Ron Betts. This has been rectified in their catalogue but not, as yet, in the synopsis pages. Until it is, and I’m sure it will be soon, I will leave it here in the news.

A Pretty Pickle

This full length farce is the first of many plays that will be put up here on oakriff.com.

A Pretty Pickle is for 5men & 4women, in 2 Acts, using 1 Set, taking place over one evening.
The play has a broad range of character ages so as many of your group as possible can be involved. It is a light hearted whimsical farce for all the family.

The play centres around two police officers from Scotland Yard who have been called to a remote country town to try and explain a bizarre series of break-ins without any thefts. they end up lost at an even more remote country pub, The Farmer's Pickle. So why are the locals all acting so very strangely? As the various reasons disentangle themselves the pub is engulfed in manic farce.

If you want to know more about it then go to A Pretty Pickle.

OAKRIFF is here

And it is a brand new website and a brand new source of stage play scripts. It was set up by me, John Furse, primarily to share with you the stage plays I have written.

Knowing the problems encountered when trying to find that elusive ideal play for a group to produce, I hope I can provide plays to relieve that vexation.

Starting in a small way, eventually, I will be bringing you a variety of scripts from simple sketches to full length plays. As I add more scripts to my catalogue I hope I will be able to relieve the frustrations of not being able to find that elusive “ideal play”.

The scripts will come in a convenient A5 format, wire bound; and the cost of the licence fee I have kept as low as I can.

Being new, OAKRIFF can only supply scripts to UK groups at present. However, the means of providing the ability to produce my plays in your country is being addressed as you read this.
